La Center Football: A strong season ended in the quarterfinals

The La Center Wildcats were eliminated in the 1A state football quarterfinals with a 21-10 loss to Montesano. The game, held at Woodland High School, marked the end of a strong season for La Center, which had an impressive 9-2 record, including a first-round bye in the playoffs and an earlier victory over Montesano in Week 1.

La Center initially led the game 10-7 at halftime, thanks to a 30-yard field goal by Nate Rembisz and a 56-yard touchdown pass from Wyatt Eiesland to Parker McKinney. However, the second half belonged to Montesano. The Bulldogs capitalized on a 95-yard drive early in the third quarter and sealed their win with a late touchdown by Toren Crites. Despite La Center’s defensive efforts, including key goal-line stands and turnovers, their offense struggled to sustain momentum, with Montesano’s defense holding them to 81 rushing yards.

Montesano’s victory secured their first semifinal appearance since 2015, where they will face the winner of Seton Catholic and Life Christian.
